FAQs About Window Tinting in Charlotte, NC

Why should I have my windows tinted?

Because of its UV blocking properties, window tint protects your own skin, as well as your car’s interior materials, from damage. Several films are recommended by the Skin Cancer foundation as effective UV protectants. In addition, high-performing films can reject up to 97% of infrared radiation, which means they can nearly eliminate heat buildup in your car.

Are there disadvantages to tinting my windows?

If the film used is too dark, it can greatly reduce your visibility, especially at night. Low-quality or incorrectly installed film can become a safety hazard by bubbling, peeling, cracking, or turning purple over time, thereby reducing your visibility.

How is window tint installed?

A trained professional should install window film in a clean environment with little air movement. At our shop, every window pattern is precision cut from a computer program to match the specific year, make, and model of your car.

What can go wrong with a window tint installation?

  • Glass can be scratched.
If the film is cut on your car’s window, the knife can etch the glass itself. We mitigate this problem by cutting our film on a plotter from pre-defined templates in our film-cutting computer program.
  • Film can be scratched.
The film can be damaged during installation if incorrect tools are used or the correct tools are used incorrectly. Window films have liners that protect the film during heat formation, but if too much pressure is applied, the film can be scratched. Our trained professional installers know how to avoid such damage.
  • Bubbles, light gaps, and other installation errors can occur.
When window tint is installed incorrectly, various errors can be introduced, such as the failure to remove small pockets of air from the film or to prevent gaps between the film and the edge of the glass. These problems can be avoided by choosing trained, experienced professionals to tint your windows.

What do I need to do to maintain my tinted windows?

Don’t roll down or clean the inside of your windows for three to four days after the film has been applied. Never use ammonia-based window cleaners on tinted windows.

What is the North Carolina window tint law?

The legal limit for car window tint in North Carolina is 35% VLT (Visible Light Transmission); if you go any darker, your car will fail inspection, and you may get a ticket. On trucks and SUVs, windows other than front seats and windshield can be tinted darker than 35 percent. Each state has its own rules and regulations regarding window tint.

(Note that we’re not lawyers and this isn’t legal advice.)

Am I allowed to tint my windshield in North Carolina?

North Carolina statute G.S. 20-127 (b) states “The windshield of the vehicle may be tinted only along the top of the windshield and the tinting may not extend more than five inches below the top of the windshield or below the AS1 line of the windshield, whichever measurement is longer. Provided, however, an untinted clear film which does not obstruct vision but which reduces or eliminates ultraviolet radiation from entering a vehicle may be applied to the windshield.”

Below is an excerpt from North Carolina State law relating to window tint.

§ 20-127. Window Tinting Restrictions. – A window of a vehicle that is operated on a highway or a public vehicular area shall comply with this subsection. The windshield of the vehicle may be tinted only along the top of the windshield and the tinting may not extend more than five inches below the top of the windshield or below the AS1 line of the windshield, whichever measurement is longer. Provided, however, an untinted clear film which does not obstruct vision but which reduces or eliminates ultraviolet radiation from entering a vehicle may be applied to the windshield. Any other window of the vehicle may be tinted in accordance with the following restrictions:

(1) The total light transmission of the tinted window shall be at least thirty-five percent (35%). A vehicle window that, by use of a light meter approved by the Commissioner, measures a total light transmission of more than thirty-two percent (32%) is conclusively presumed to meet this restriction.

(2) The light reflectance of the tinted window shall be twenty percent (20%) or less.

(3) Tinted film or another material used to tint the window shall be nonreflective and shall not be red, yellow, or amber.

(emphasis added; this isn’t the entire law; we’re not lawyers and this isn’t legal advice)

What is the South Carolina Window Tint Law?

The legal limit for car window tint in South Carolina is 27% VLT (Visible Light Transmission). The same general rules apply for car window tinting in both North and South Carolina, except for the percentage of visible light transmission allowed by law.

(Note that we’re not lawyers and this isn’t legal advice.)

Can I have the protection of window film without having to have dark windows?

Yes. We carry products that offer exceptional protection for your skin and interior materials, as well as heat reduction, without darkening your windows. We also carry films in lighter shades. The 35 percent limit offers flexibility with your shaded color

Your Vehicle Called! It's Asking for Ceramic Window Tint

North Carolina summers are hot and humid. With an average temperature of 89° F and about 30% of the summer boiling at more than 90° F, this season can feel downright brutal.

Of course, cars amplify exterior temperatures because they act like greenhouses. So, when outside temperatures range from 80° F to 100° F, expect your car’s interior to turn into an oven.

How hot are we talking? Upwards of 130° to 172° F!

That’s why more car owners are turning to ceramic window tint.

We install ceramic window tint in Charlotte, NC. Schedule now…

This tint reduces your car’s inside temperature significantly, protecting your car’s interior, belongings you choose to leave inside it, and the backs of your legs. (If you’ve ever sat down in a hot car wearing shorts, you get what we mean.)

Keep reading to learn more about ceramic tint and whether it’s right for your vehicle.

Cool Days, Hot Cars

When summer temperatures soar, we’re reminded of what all that heat can do to the interior of our car and our belongings. Did you know, however, that even on mild days, interior car heat can soar?

What’s more, don’t assume that cracking your windows will help much. Studies have proven that cracked windows have a negligible impact on car temperature reduction.

Cracking windows can up your chances of having your vehicle stolen, too, and who wants to take that chance?

It’s also a misnomer that summer’s the only time you need to worry about hot car temperatures. Researchers looking into the dangerous effects of leaving pets and young children in parked cars have found that even on mild days, parked cars still get dangerously hot.

How hot? A parked car’s temperature can rise by more than 40 degrees within as little as 60 minutes, even when the outside temperature is little more than 70° F.

For these reasons, you should never, ever leave children or pets in a vehicle. Even on mild days, the interior of a car can spike to life-threatening levels very quickly. Now, that might be reason enough to hold you responsible for the personal injury or death of these fragile beings.

Children have died in overheated vehicles on days when the outside temperature climbed no higher than 63 F. What’s more, it only takes a temperature fluctuation of a couple degrees to contribute to pet overheating, causing life-threatening conditions such as heat stroke. If you’re not careful enough, due to avoidable negligence, you could cause grave danger to kids and animals and find yourself with a pretty serious case.

Soaring Temperatures, UV Rays, and Your Car

These hellish temperatures can also have a permanent impact on your vehicle, especially when coupled with UV rays. Although car manufacturers spend lots of money on hot and cold testing vehicles, there’s no replacement for real-world driving conditions.

As your car turns into an oven, the rest of the “greenhouse effect,” a variety of unpleasant things start happening to your vehicle’s interior. For one, the carpet, dashboard, and other surfaces absorb sunlight, trapping heat.

When car interiors go unprotected from heat and UV rays, oils get pulled out of the leather and vinyl. The result? Cracked surfaces, faded colors, and brittle materials.

What to do? While parking in the shade represents an obvious solution, you don’t always have this luxury. Getting your car windows tinted represents the superior solution.

Of course, you should never leave pets or children in your vehicle, even with window tinting. You will be pleasantly surprised, however, by how cool tinting keeps your vehicle’s interior.

Ceramic tint such as LLumar CTX 40 window film also helps to protect your car against the harmful effects of UV rays. Find out more about the process of applying this window film to a Tesla Model X.

Next, we’ll take a closer look at the many benefits of window tinting and why you shouldn’t go without it one day longer.

Why You Should Consider Ceramic Window Tinting

Advantages of window tinting include:

  • ✓ Temperature control
  • ✓ UV & glare protection
  • ✓ Privacy
  • ✓ Signal stability
  • ✓ Varying colors
  • ✓ Long-term savings

Keeping your car’s interior cool is about more than just ensuring your seats don’t give you nasty back-of-the-leg burn when wearing shorts.

Of course, not all window tinting is created equal. When it comes to a superior product, ceramic window tinting represents your best option. Here’s what you need to know about the advantages of products such as LLumar Ceramic window tint.

Let’s explore each of these benefits in greater detail so that you have a thorough understanding of the superiority of ceramic tinting.

Temperature Control

Tinting has been shown to significantly reduce the heat that filters into your car, thereby offsetting the “greenhouse effect.” This effect also holds true when it comes to driving around in your vehicle.

Even on a sunny day, you and your passengers are less likely to feel the heat penetrating your cabin. As a result, you’ll lose less gas on air condition to cool off your car.

UV and Glare Protection

Did you know that ceramic window tints block out 99 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays? As a result, the interior of your car will last longer without unsightly fading or cracking, and you and your passengers will remain shielded from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Patented ceramic technology provides heat rejection while maintaining a factory glass appearance. It reduces glare as you drive, and it only allows between five and 50 percent of light to enter your vehicle.

Privacy

Besides shielding you and your passengers from UV rays and glare, ceramic tinting also provides an added level of privacy. The darker color helps to mask any valuables that you’re transporting in your car.

Yet, this added tinting won’t impact your visibility while driving. It’s a win-win for your car, your passengers, and you.

Signal Stability

Did you know that car window tints containing metal can impact the signals you’re able to receive inside your car? These signals include everything from satellite to GPS and cellular service.

Fortunately, when you go with ceramic tint, you don’t experience this same type of interference.

Varying colors

Despite all of the benefits listed above when it comes to ceramic window tinting, you don’t have to worry about a massive alteration in your car’s current appearance.

You can protect your vehicle from excess heat, UV rays, and glare without drastically changing your window color. What’s more, you don’t have to worry about the tint fading or otherwise changing color over time.

Long-Term Savings

Despite the superior nature of ceramic tinting, you won’t have to break the bank. Yes, you’ll pay more upfront for ceramic tint. But when you factor in how much you’ll save energy-wise, this cost differential is quickly compensated for.

What do we mean? Ceramic film means you don’t have to crank up your air conditioning. So, no more burning through fuel.

Last time we checked, gas prices weren’t coming down anytime soon. So, this represents significant savings over time.

You can also nix the cost of sunscreen while driving around. Ceramic tint provides the best protection you can get against the harmful rays of the sun. That means less concern about sunburn and sun cancer over the long haul.

Ceramic Tint vs Factory Tint

Factory windows don’t offer the protection that you need from the sun. Even when they come with factory tint. After all, factory tint’s just dye.

Ceramic tint, however, offers significant protection. What is ceramic window tint? It’s a type of tinting film that can be applied to any window type.

Ceramic window tint is comprised of carbon properties and nano-layered ceramic properties. The result? Blockage of 99.9 percent of the sun’s harmful rays, as well as nearly 60 percent of IR heat.

Unlike other types of window film tinting, it doesn’t conduct heat, and it’s not made of metal. It provides the benefits of durability, infrared light-blocking, UV blocking, and glare resistance without darkening the actual appearance of your window glass.

When taking drives longer than a half-hour, in particular, you’ll notice major differences. Some drivers even report rarely using their air conditioning once they have ceramic tint.

Ceramic tint also makes your car windows both more durable and shatterproof. This characteristic will help protect you and your passengers from stray rocks, golf balls, baseballs, and injuries related to shattered glass during car accidents.

Sun Glare: A Preventable Factor in Car Accidents

Of course, the advantages associated with ceramic window tinting don’t stop there. Besides keeping your car interior cooler and free from UV rays and glare, you’ll also enjoy a better and safer overall driving experience.

Many drivers mistakenly assume that when the weather’s sunny and bright, they are at less risk of having an accident. This assumption doesn’t prove true, however.

Why? Because of the contribution of sun glare to auto accidents.

While you might look at glare as little more than a nuisance, it remains a critical factor in many auto accidents. Upwards of 9,000 glare-related accidents occur each year. As a result, glare is the second leading cause of auto accidents after icy or slick roads.

Just one or two seconds of sun glare can have devastating impacts on your vehicle safety. It can blind a driver, making it impossible to discern what’s going on ahead of them. Not surprisingly, bright and sunny days bring with them the highest potential for glare, so ensure you take measures to prevent any sorts of accidents happening on the roads, to protect yourself and other drivers – this isn’t just something that applies to car drivers, but also truck drivers. As a truck driver, if you’re involved in an accident, you can always learn more about what you can do after this, but taking measures beforehand would be ideal to prevent any sort of accident from happening in the first place.

You owe it to yourself to take the necessary precautions to prevent glare-related accidents. In the process, you’ll avoid personal injury, damaged property and passengers, and the potential for costly, time-consuming lawsuits. However, if at all you end up getting into trouble, gathering legal evidence would be the first step you need to do before even consulting a lawyer.

After all, in most states, liability for glare-related accidents rests squarely on the shoulders of the blinded driver.

Why? Because the sun itself can’t be held responsible for causing the accident. As a result, judges rationalize that such drivers should have known to wear sunglasses or take other precautions to avoid being blind by sun glare.

Why Install Ceramic Window Tint in Charlotte?

North Carolina’s sizzling temperatures can have significant negative impacts on your car’s interior over time. Since the “greenhouse effect” can lead to car interior temperatures approaching 200°F, it’s well worth it to invest in window tint.

In this article, we’ve explored why you won’t get the same results from all types of window tinting. Factory tint proves among the most ineffectual of all because it’s little more than dye.

As for window tint containing metal, it can lead to signal disruptions when it comes to cell phone operation, GPS, satellite, and more. You also have to contend with a visibly darker tint that tends to fade over time.

For these reasons and so many more, ceramic tint remains your best option. Yes, you’ll pay more upfront. It still proves well worth it, however, when you can consider the superior results you’ll enjoy.

Yet, you’ll maintain a factory look with little visible color change, and you won’t have to worry about signal interference or color fade over time. What’s more, the tint cuts down on blinding glare that can make driving difficult at certain times of the day.

How much does saving your car’s interior and using less air conditioning and fuel mean to you? How much does cutting out glare yet maintaining a factory look appeal to you?

These are just a couple of the questions you should ask yourself as you consider the best tint for your car. An experienced ceramic window tinting shop that specializes in fine automobiles can answer your questions and provide you with an excellent finished product.
