Last week we had the privilege of caring for a brand new Tesla Model X in Charlotte, NC. Here are the phases of work we did on this vehicle to ensure a stunning appearance and stalwart protection.
Decontaminate
Our decontamination phase included three steps. First, we sprayed the exterior with Optimum FerreX, a solution that dissolves ferrous oxides and other iron particles that may have bonded with the vehicle’s paint. When particles are dissolved by the FerreX they turn purple, allowing you to see the solution at work.
Second, we gave the Tesla a foam bath. Foaming is a form of washing that exfoliates surface contaminants, allowing us to clean the vehicle’s exterior without having to scrub into the paint.
Third, we rubbed the exterior with a clay bar designed to remove any remaining embedded contaminants that were not eliminated by the FerreX or foam wash, such as rail dust, brake dust, or industrial fallout. At that point, anything that could have attached to the Tesla during shipment or transportation to our shop has been eliminated from the exterior.
Polish
After removing all surface contaminants, we polished the exterior. Since the vehicle is new, it didn’t require substantial paint correction. Thus, we were able to achieve optimal results with a mild polish using a gentle pad. The polish enhanced the depth and clarity of the vehicle’s surface.
Apply Film
We then moved to the application of Tesla Model X paint protective film (PPF), wrapping the front of the Tesla in XPEL Ultimate (Clear Bra). XPEL Ultimate is a powerful but invisible film that provides unmatched protection against paint chips from rocks or other debris and etching from bug splatter or bird droppings. It also has the ability to self-heal from scratches and swirl marks.
Coat
After protecting the front of the vehicle with XPEL Ultimate, we treated the entire vehicle with Opti-Coat Pro paint protection coating. Opti-Coat Pro Plus is a ceramic clear coat that provides permanent, superior resistance to scratching and chemical etching.
Tinting the Tesla
We finished off our treatment of the Tesla Model X by applying LLumar CTX 40 window film to the side and rear windows. Window tint blocks visible light, ultraviolet rays, and solar energy. LLumar CTX 40 in particular blocks 43% of heat and protects from 99% of ultraviolet radiation. It also has superior durability and a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.
